To mark 20 years since the end of apartheid and the first South African elections (7 May) to be held since Nelson Mandela died, a screening of the award-winning documentary 'Beyond Forgiving' will take place at The Duncairn Centre for Culture and Arts on the 30 May at 5.30pm.

Ginn Fourie and Letlapa Mphahlele, the two protagonists of the film, have been invited by Initiatives of Change and partners to take part in public screenings across the UK in a bid to inspire people to reflect on how they can seek to 'build bridges' in their lives and communities.

Award-winning documentary Beyond Forgiving takes viewers on an inspiring and hopeful journey showing how a white Christian mother's quest for catharsis led to a deeper understanding of why a black atheist politician might once have believed his only option was to meet repression with violence.

Following the screening, Ginn and Letlapa will talk about their experience moving from victimhood to survivor in post-Apartheid South Africa. The audience will be invited to ask questions and debate on healing and reconciliation.

This film screening fits well with INCORE's Accounts of the Conflict project programme. Accounts of the Conflict will create an on-line digital archive which will offer long-term storage and preservation of a range of personal accounts relating to life in Northern Ireland and the border region during the period of the conflict. Individuals, groups and organisations will be able to deposit digital copies of personal accounts with the new archive. The Accounts of the Conflict project is a 2 year project funded by the European Union's PEACE III programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body.

Initiatives of Change (IofC) is a world-wide movement of people of diverse cultures and backgrounds, who are committed to the transformation of society through changes in human motives and behaviour, starting with their own. The organisation works in 44 countries around the world and has its roots in peace, healing and reconciliation work since the 1960's. IofC has a long association in making quality films about Africa and peace building and Beyond Forgiving is its latest documentary film.
