– Includes several interesting articles on the conflict in
Sri Lanka, as well as how the government is attempting to deal with
it. While the focus is primarily on political solutions, the relationships
between the main players are helpful.

Virtual Library of Sri Lanka
The homepage offers an index by topic for all interests. For security
information, sources on “Ethnic Conflict and Civil War”
and “Politics and Human Rights” are most appropriate
– both provide a list of links and descriptions of pages and
articles relating to the Sri Lankan Conflict. For example, articles
and sites include “War Games…”, “Elite Forces
and War Heroes”, and “Human Rights Records and Reports”
– this includes reports on a variety of topics, including
torture, use of lethal force, mass graves, etc.
- The
International Centre for Ethnic Studies
The Centre has produced several interesting books, monographs, reports
and periodicals relating to security, particularly a recent monograph
on policing. Full-text is not available on-line, although a digital
library is under construction at time of posting.

Of particular interest are Police History (note the last two paragraphs),
the General Overview, Police Structure, FAQ, Recruitment, Mission
Statement, Special Task Force, and Functional Command. Very complete-
includes uniforms of past and present and timelines.

Task Force
Interesting in the background information the pages provide, also
gives information on recruitment, training, and camps (as well as
medals and ranks).
- Sri
Lanka Army
Includes daily updates on security situations, a brief history,
the organisation of the army, the requirements for joining the army,
training – including links to several academies, operations,
and news releases. The publications pages are under construction
at time of posting.
- Sri
Lanka Military Academy
Includes the history and mission of the academy, and admission requirements.
See also Combat Training School site for a brief description of
another key academy.
- Government
of Sri Lanka – Official Site
While
the site has the government’s view of the conflict, it is
useful, especially in its links to Security Reports and the archives.
Editorials from daily newspapers are also available.
