    Comprehensive site including many links to relevant information, such as Policy and Security and Crime Prevention, as well as a variety of related organizations and papers. A very useful starting place for any work on South Africa.

  • Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation – Publications
    Full text articles and papers on South African issues, many focusing on security. See Bruce, D. & O'Malley, G. (2001). In the Line of Duty? Shooting incidents reports and other indicators of the use and abuse of force by members of the SAPS. Research Report written for the Independent Complaints Directorate, October and the short articles on racism and lethal force within the SAPS.

    Organisational profile
    • - Of particular interest, this site provides access to History (including relevant sections of the Constitution and inaugural speeches); Legislation (including the Constitution – specifically Chapter 11: Security Services – and Police Acts and Amendments); Code of Conduct; Police/Population Ratio; International Comparisons.
    • - Media Statements – www.saps.org/za/3_medstat13_index.htm - allows searches into previous statements archives.
    • - Also provides links to National, International and Legal sites as well as Servamus (Safety and Security On-Line Magazine).

  • Department of Defense
    The official site for the South African military, it provides profiles of key figures, speeches and press statements; SANDF information, particularly pages on Joint Operations, including Special Forces, Peacekeeping, Crime Prevention, Exercises, and Humanitarian Aid; News and Events; Articles and Papers, including annual reports, code of conduct and transformation; Magazines (SASoldier); and Links to several government agencies and other organisations.

  • South African Military Academy
    The General pages include the mission and values, background, history and code of honour. Other pages, such as the annual, give a brief description of the academy and its cadets. It’s links page is particularly useful, providing links to other military academies around the world and links to military related centres.
