A useful source that provides links to several different types of news organizations broadly categorized by national and foreign Serbian and Montenegrin newspapers and news media and local Serbian and Montenegrin newspapers and news media. The website also lists which sources cover Kosovo, as well as the language that the media is published in.

A useful source that gives daily news from Serbia and Montenegro, Kosovo, and the surrounding area. Website provides a compilation of articles from various sources listed chronologically by date. Banking and Payments Authority of Kosovo (BPK)
The Banking and Payments Authority of Kosovo is a distinct public entity with the authority to license, supervise and regulate financial institutions in the territory of Kosovo. The website provides information on the functions and responsibilities of the BPK, financial institutions in Kosovo, and currency and exchange rates. There are also links to the institution’s annual and monthly reports.

Ministry of Public Services—Statistical Office of Kosovo
Provides general statistical data and analysis about Kosovo. Website has four major links to: agriculture and environment, economy, population, and social. Foreign and Commonwealth Office of the United Kingdom (FCO UK)—Country Profile, Serbia and Montenegro, Kosovo
Provides very general information on Serbia and Montenegro and Kosovo including: basic geography, recent history, UN and NATO involvement in Kosovo, politics and security, the economy, and international relations.
Also has a link for travel advice. Information sheets are updated and issued regularly throughout the year.

U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)—Kosovo
Includes a link to the USAID Mission in Kosovo, as well a link to general country background information. U.S. Department of State, Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs—Serbia and Montenegro (includes Kosovo)
Provides recent “highlights” from the area as well as links to general background notes about Serbia and Montenegro (including Kosovo) from sources such as the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) World Factbook and the U.S. Department of State Consular Information Sheets. The latter is particularly relevant to persons wanting to travel to Serbia and Montenegro. To receive up-to-date travel advisories, send an e-mail containing the word “subscribe” to:

European Union (EU)—Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe (SCSP)
The Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe was adopted in 1999. More than 40 partner countries and organizations agreed to work to “foster peace, democracy, respect for human rights and economic prosperity,” which would eventually lead to regional stability. The website offers background and constituent documents of the Stability Pact, as well as links to various “Working Tables” of different regional initiatives. There are also links to press releases.

The European Agency for Reconstruction is responsible for the management of the main EU assistance programs in UN-administered Kosovo. In 2004, the Agency has been focused on encouraging investments from International Financial Institutions (IFIs), promoting good governance and the rule of law, as well as promoting adequate job training. Amnesty International (AI)—Serbia and Montenegro (includes Kosovo)
The website gives the AI 2004 Human Rights Report for Serbia and Montenegro (includes Kosovo). There are also links to AI’s human rights agenda, the organization’s activities, and a report guide. The library link at the bottom of the page provides numerous articles relating to current and past political and social events and activities in Serbia and Montenegro, including Kosovo.

European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI)—Kosovo/a
ECMI is an NGO focused on majority-minority relations in the wider Europe. Although the Centre is based out of Germany, it has a project centre in Kosovo/a. European Stability Initiative (ESI)
Offers information on two Kosovo-specific projects—The Future of Mitrovica and the “Lessons Learned and Analysis (LLA)” Unit of the EU Pillar of the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK). The former project, jointly operated by ESI and the EU Pillar of UNMIK, analyzes the best institution-building practices for use in Kosovo. LLA also uses Kosovo as a learning tool other parts of the world. The latter project presents a proposal on the ethnically divided town of Mitrovica. Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR)--Kosovo
Provides an overview of IWPR activities in the region. The Institute maintains the online “Balkans Crisis Report,” a compilation of articles from around the Balkans (note that IWPR has a special “Country Page” dedicated to Kosovo). There are also links to past reports. International Crisis Group (ICG)—Kosovo project
The Kosovo project is largely centered on the consolidation of the peace process, which includes examining: the legal status of Kosovo; the transition from United Nations control to local self-government; the creation of a judicial system and the rule of law; the return of displaced people to their homes; economic development and the privatization process; and the future role of international bodies, in particular the EU, in the province. University of Maryland, Center for International Development and Conflict Management—Minorities at Risk (MAR), Minority Group Assessment for Post-Communist States
MAR tracks “politically-active ethnic groups throughout the world, identifying where they are, what they do, and what happens to them.” The “Minority Group Assessment for Post-Communist States” details all Balkan countries, including the former Yugoslavia. Lays out the framework for provisional self-government in Kosovo. Standards for Kosovo (UNMIK)
The “Standards for Kosovo” is an extensive and detailed outline of the requirements that must be met before the question of Kosovo's future status is addressed. Eight broad categories of democratization must be established including: instituting functioning democratic institutions; founding rule of law; allowing freedom of movement; maintaining sustainable returns and the rights of communities and their members; developing a stable economy; upholding property rights; initiating dialogue; and preserving the Kosovo Protection Corps.
