2. Summary
Progressing
Towards Settlement is a major academic study into the Management of
Peace Processes. It builds on previous INCORE research project, Coming
Out of Violence which examined five contemporary peace processes in
South Africa, Israel/Palestine, Sri Lanka, the Basque Country and
Northern Ireland.
The Progessing
Towards Settlement project takes a thematic approach to the study
of peace processes. It identifies major themes in peace processes
(both CONTENT and PROCESS issues) and ASSESSES their contribution
to peacemaking and stablilisatioon efforts in contemporary peace processes.
The project is
co-ordinated by Professor John Darby, former Director of INCORE and
currently a visiting Professor at the Kroc Institute at the University
of Notre Dame, and Dr Roger MacGinty, a former research officer at
INCORE and currently a lecturer at the Richardson Institute for Peace
Studies at Lancaster University.
Leading academics
in the study of ethnic conflict and conflict resolution will contribute
towards an edited book on the Management of Peace Processes. The project
is scheduled to end in late 2000. For more information contact INCORE,
