This project
is being undertaken by INCORE Research Associate Norman Porter.
The project aims to explore obstacles to peace-building and reconciliation,
as well as ways of overcoming them, with key representatives of
republicanism and nationalism and their related parties, as well
as with certain community and religious groups. The overriding purposes
of the project are
- To encourage
reflection among political representatives and others on the
cultural-political barriers to reconciliation in both Northern
Ireland and within the island of Ireland; and
- To
conceive of practices suited to remove such barriers.
The project
began in May 1997 and is due to report in April 1999.
