Education for Pluralism
This UNICEF
funded project headed by INCORE consultant Dr. Tony Gallagher (The
Queen's University of Belfast) will result in a paper on policy approaches
in multi-ethnic societies, with a main focus on Northern Ireland and
other societies where ethnic tensions have been evident. Central issues
to be addressed include
- protection
of ethnic groups
- differential
treatment of ethnic groups
- education
policies affecting ethnic groups or their relationships
- policies towards
non-state schools catering to specific ethnic or religious groups
- policies related
to violence and conflict resolution within the school
Throughout the
paper, discussion will be linked, where possible, to increases or
decreases in ethnic tensions as a result of specific policies.
