Local International Learning Project (LILP)

About LILP

First launched in 2001 and closing in April 2006, over the past five years INCORE's Local International Learning Project (LILP) has helped develop innovative, forward-looking and co-ordinated policies and practices to address the causes and consequences of conflict in Northern Ireland and other countries.

Through workshops, policy/practice fora, conferences, trainings, international speakers, international study visits and publications, LILP engaged a total of over 2,000 participants in more than 60 activities in 15 countries world-wide. In doing so, the project:

    • Facilitated the exchange of knowledge and experience between policymakers and practitioners in Northern Ireland and other countries on a range of peace and reconciliation issues.
    • Collected and disseminated 'good practice', knowledge and experience of peacemaking and peacebuilding.
    • Established and sustained working relationships between policymakers and practitioners in Northern Ireland and internationally.
    • Promoted co-ordinated, evidence-based approaches to peace and reconciliation issues.

Phase II

Phase II of LILP began in July 2003 and closed in April 2006. Highlights of LILP II's success included the development of regional programmes in Sri Lanka and Israel/Palestine, a new focus on Northern Ireland's growing diversity, delivery of a high-profile Community Development Think Tank series, and the project's assistance in address interfacing issues in both Belfast and Derry/Londonderry.

"Seeing other situations of conflict helps one to keep perspective, learn and be positive." (Participant Evaluation)
