17-24 October 2004 - The UK-Lucknow Dialogues
Peace Direct and One World Week would like to invite you to ‘Moves to Bring Peace: The UK-Lucknow Dialogues’, 17-24 October, to celebrate local peace initiatives. Mr Jagdish Gandhi, the headmaster of Lucknow ’s City Montessori School , India and his team are visiting Keighley, Bradford, Newcastle , Loughborough, Slough and London for discussions and workshops. The aim of the events is to share the experiences of different communities, here in the UK and in India , and to discuss what individuals and groups can do to deal with rising tensions, and violence in a peaceful way. Righting the Wrongs, Northern Ireland and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child
This weekly seminar series takes place every Tuesday at 4pm at the Institute for Irish Studies in Belfast. It features a diverse array of presentations on issues such as rights, citizenship, education, violence, immigration and poverty and their relationship with children's issues in Northern Ireland. 2nd November 2004: Community Dialogue - The Way Forward
This one-day conference on dialogue and conflict management in Northern Ireland will take place at St. Columb's Park House in Derry/Londonderry. Running from 10.30am-3.30pm, the event will also see the launch of Brian Lennon's new book 'Peace Comnes Dropping Slow'. 19th-20th November - Peace Direct Linking Conference
The Peace Direct Link Group Programme aims to twin groups in the UK with peace groups or individuals working for peace elsewhere in the world. As part of this programme and to recruit new UK groups Peace Direct is organising a 2-day conference in Rugby , The Midlands, starting on 19th November at 6 pm and ending on the 20th at 6pm. Guest speaker will be Ann Pettifor (Jubilee 2000 campaign). Each participant will be asked to contribute £25 (this covers full board and conference materials). Experience of linking is good but no prerequisite. The conference will be a mixture of interactive sessions to share knowledge, a session to look at ways forward as well as a chance to network and establish contacts. This will be a good opportunity for anyone who is keen to do something positive for peace.
