The UNESCO
Centre, University of Ulster undertakes research, development and teaching
on the themes of Education for Pluralism, Human Rights and Democracy.
Our current work has three main themes:
- Education, diversity
and social inclusion
- Education, democracy
and citizenship
- Education for
international development.
The UNESCO
Centre, based in Coleraine, provides a focus for research and development
on the role of education within divided societies. The Centre has a
special interest in education and the conflict in Northern Ireland and
has specific expertise related to the curriculum theme of Education
for Mutual Understanding, Citizenship, Social, Civic and Political Education,
the Teaching of history in divided societies, and the Development of
integrated schools. A significant strength of the group is the relevance
of its work to policy and practice.
