Michel Rocard Peace Lecture
On May 8 2003, Michel Rocard, Prime Minister of France from 1988-91,
delivered a lecture on conflict resolution at the Magee campus.
In 1988 Mr. Rocard chaired the negotiations which led to the Matignon
Accords, designed to bring an end to violence in the French Pacific
territory of New Caledonia.
Mr Rocard spoke
on the dynamics involved in conflict resolution – referring
to the specifics of his own diplomatic experience.
His lecture included a video presentation on his peacemaking work in
New Caledonia.
