2013 International Summer School Open for Applications

2013 International Summer School
The INCORE Summer School provides a structured learning opportunity to analyse the dynamic and constantly changing field of conflict resolution and peacebuilding. Focusing on the latest research and concepts in peace and conflict studies and practice participants are invited to compare, contrast and learn from different perspectives. In 2013 we will offer three modules: Evaluation in Conflict Prone Settings; Culture and Peacebuilding; Peacemaking and peace building in Northern Ireland.

2013 INCORE Masters Programme Now Recruiting

Masters Programme at INCORE
A Masters programme in Peace and Conflict Studies has been running on the Magee Campus for 25 years with over 500 graduates to date. In September 2012 INCORE began a new updated programme, now an MSc. in Applied Peace and Conflict Studies. The programme offers students a unique opportunity to undertake a graduate programme characterized by academic excellence within the context of a vibrant and culturally rich society emerging from conflict. The 2013 programme is now recruiting and also includes a stream focusing on children and conflict run in partnership with the Belfast NGO Early Years.

Boston Gathering Honours John Hume and Thomas P. O'Neill

INCORE Peace Initiative
The INCORE Peace Initiative continues to gather momentum with senior officers of the University of Ulster attending a gala event in Boston. A further £876,000 from the University of Ulster has been agreed for the John Hume and Thomas P. O'Neill Chair in Peace which will be based at INCORE. The latest donations take the total funds pledged so far to the University to over £2 million for the endowed Chair in Peace Studies. The Chair will form part of the new INCORE Peace Initiative which will include the Chair, a Distinguished Global Peace Fellow, a Lesson-Learning Programme, and Masters and PhD scholarships.

CAIN to host Irish Government Troubles' Records Online

New Grant Awarded
We are very pleased to announce that CAIN has received a grant of 40,000 Euros from the Reconciliation / Anti-Sectarianism Fund based within the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade. This will allow CAIN to digitise a range of records from the National Archives, Ireland relating to the Troubles. These will then be made publicly available on CAIN.

Prof Tom Fraser Delivers Inaugural Lecture in India

International Visits
Professor Fraser delivered the Inaugural Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Lecture at the invitation of Lord Rana on 'Lala Lajpat Rai and National Regeneration' at a conference on 'Rural Planning and Development' on 18 November 2012 at Cordia Group of Institutes, Sanghol, Punjab, India. The previous day, his new edited book, India's Rural Transformation and Development: Issues, Processes and Direction, was presented to the Chief Minister of Pujnjab, Sardar Parkash Singh Badal, at the opening ceremony. The book also contains his chapter on 'Gandhi, Village Development and India's Freedom Movement'. Known as the 'Lion of Punjab', Lala Lajpat Rai (1865-1928) was one of the leading Indian politicians of his generation, who founded the Servants of the People Society.

Register for INCORE and Rotary Global Peace Forum

INCORE and Rotary Global Peace Forum
The Rotary Club of Londonderry is partnering with the University of Ulster's INCORE to host the 2013 Rotary Global Peace Forum in Derry~Londonderry. The Forum aims to contribute to reconciliation, learning and assist those committed to peacemaking and peacebuilding throughout the world. The Forum will be held 24-26 May 2013. Registration is now open on the new conference website.
