Previous Rotary Scholars

Garry Lynn

From Omagh, County Tyrone. Prior to receiving the Rotary Club of Londonderry Peace Scholarship to study Applied Peace and Conflict Studies at Incore I graduated from Ulster University with a First Class Honours Degree in Sociology with Psychology.

I am particularly interested in the Northern Ireland conflict, but have also spent a considerable amount of time studying the cases of South Africa, Israel-Palestine and Darfur. Specifically, my research interest centres around the various challenges of policing in post-conflict divided societies.

My undergraduate dissertation involved measuring public perception of the reformed Police Service of Northern Ireland, and my Masters thesis is a comparative analysis of police reform in Northern Ireland and South Africa.

Hugo Maguire

From Lisnaskea, Co. Fermanagh.  After graduating in July 2015 with a BA Degree in Politics from Queen’s University Belfast, I wanted to develop my specific interest in peacebuilding and conflict resolution in post conflict societies.

The Rotary Club of Londonderry Peace Scholarship has afforded me a unique opportunity to undertake this unique Master’s course in Applied Peace and Conflict Studies at INCORE and continue my research in this field.

Upon completion of this course I would hope that the impact of my work will be considerable on a number of fronts, however the area on which I would most like to make a lasting impression would relate to addressing the legacy of the past here in Northern Ireland, which has proven to be one of the most intractable aspects of Northern Ireland’s transition to peace.
